In a Zoom press conference with media Wednesday afternoon, Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule broke the news that running back Christian McCaffrey and linebacker Shaq Thompson have both restructured their contracts when asked about active the team will be during free agency.
“Some guys have helped us out. Christian and Shaq just restructured their contracts to give us a little more flexibility. We don’t have a ton of money, but we have some to be able to go out and look at the right positions.”
Rhule wouldn’t discuss the details of the transactions, but did say that they both happened over the last couple of days.
This is big news for the Panthers, who entered the offseason with very little cap room. With the release of veteran players like KK Short and this restructuring, Carolina should have monies available to address areas of need during free agency.
