Heels Set to Host Desperate Wake Forest Team Seeking their First Conference Win

The Carolina Tar Heels look to bounce back in conference play, protecting their home court against Wake Forest Wednesday night inside the Dean Smith Center. The game which as originally scheduled for a 9 P.M. tip off, but was moved to 7:00 P.M. due to a postponement of the NCSU-Virginia game.

Yes, Carolina is coming off of a close defeat on the road to Florida State who was playing without star freshman Scottie Barnes, but they still made it competitive with their depth – going 9 deep consistently. What we didn’t expect was the Tar Heels to insert Anthony Harris, a red shirt freshman, who returned from tearing his ACL last season. Harris played eight minutes, but his energy and assertiveness on the offensive & defensive end provided much needed depth at the guard position.

Harris, who ended the game with 5 points (2-2) including 3 assists, stated after the contest he’s doing everything to get his team wins. Getting up the court in transition is something this Roy Williams’ team has lacked. Fellow Freshman guard R.J. Davis admitted during post game he fed off of Harris’s energy and going forward looks to having a formable back court with him, Harris, and Caleb Love.

Roy Williams has a problem and it’s a good problem to have. Depth in the back court. With the ability to play 4 guards, including Leaky Black who ran point a lot in high school, gives Williams options.

The Demon Deacons who enter the contest 0-5 can not be regarded as any slouch. Wake has been competitive in their conference defeats in this season, including respectable losses to Duke, Louisville and Virginia Tech, who were ranked at the time of play. Wake is desperate for a conference win. Throw out the record,  Steve Forbes will have the Demon Deacons ready to compete in Chapel Hill Wednesday night.
