NC State freshman guard Shakeel Moore was named ACC Freshman of the Week Monday for his efforts in last Tuesday’s win over 17th-ranked North Carolina.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel.
Moore had the finest performance of his young career as the Greensboro native came off-the-bench and scored 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting to help lead the Pack to a 79-76 win over its rival North Carolina.
It was Moore’s first career double-figure scoring game.
With the game tied at 15, Moore drained a three-pointer to give the Pack a lead it would never relinquish. Moore scored 10 consecutive points for the Pack, going on his own personal 10-2 run over the Tar Heels to give NC State a 25-17 lead with 12:17 to play.
In the second half, Moore again sparked the Pack, driving past the North Carolina defense for a thunderous baseline jam. Moore’s jam gave the Pack a 61-57 lead and was the start of an 18-7 run for NC State.
Moore added two steals in the win.
For the season, Moore is averaging 7.2 points per game and ranks seventh in the ACC with 2.0 steals per game.
NC State (5-1, 1-0) returns to action Wednesday evening when it hosts Boston College (2-5, 0-1) at PNC Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 pm and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
