Three years ago today the Carolina Panthers were the best team in America at 11-0 and Cam Newton was playing MVP-like football.  Fast forward to this season.  The Panthers are 6-5 and hoping to finish the season strong enough to earn a wildcard spot in the playoffs.  A lot of things have changed since that unforgettable season – ownership has changed, players are gone, coaches have moved on, new leadership on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball – this Panthers team is different in almost every facet…even at QB.

Yes, Cam Newton is still at the helm of the Panthers offense, but don’t let Carolina’s record distract you from the fact that 2018 Newton is playing better football than CaMVP…and numbers back it up.

(Stats based on numbers through week 11 of each season)

Newton stated earlier this week that he feels like he’s playing his best ball as well:

With Newton now in the prime of his career and leading an offense that is more talented and potent than in 2015, there has to be legit concerns on the defensive end of the ball – the clear deficiency in this Panthers team.  If adjustments aren’t made Carolina risks wasting Cam’s best years on a squad that will be left on the outside looking in pondering what if.
