The Carolinas came to a halt this past weekend as Hurricane Florence made landfall along the coast of North Carolina. UNC, NC State and ECU all cancelled scheduled football games for the week and campaigns have been started by institutions around the state to assist in relief efforts. One such campaign has been launched by the Tar Heel football team who will donate their equipment truck in order to deliver supplies and food to affected areas.
According associate athletic director Rick Steinbacher, via the News & Observer, the idea to use the 18-wheeler came from coach Larry Fedora.
“It was coach Fedora’s idea,” Steinbacher said. “He said ‘we got that equipment truck. That thing can deliver a lot of goods and things that people need. We ought to put that thing into action.’”
The university will collect donations at the Williamson Center parking lot across the street from the Dean Smith Center. See below for times and a list of what’s being collected:
Schedule for donations
Tuesday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. – noon.
Williamson Center: 450 Skipper Bowles Dr., Chapel Hill; the truck will be parked in the Williamson Center parking lot.
