It looked like it might be an entertaining contest for the first 2:23 minutes of the game as the Georgia State Panthers jumped to an early 7-0 lead – aided by a 46 yard pass play from GSU quarterback Dan Elliott to Devin Gentry. But those would be the only points given up by the Wolfpack defense all afternoon. And although, they benefited from a missed field goal and were threatened in the red zone, the Wolfpack defense managed to hold Georgia State scoreless for 3 straight quarters.
“They’re resilient,” NCSU head coach Dave Doeren told reporters about his defense after the game. “People are moving the ball at times on them, but they made corrections. They really did a nice job on 3rd down. Out of the 13 times they were out there, they only converted 4 times.”
Wolfpack quarterback Ryan Finley had another big game offensively, completing 31 of 38 pass attempts for 370 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
“He did what he was supposed to do for most of the game. Had one mistake…I know he’ll learn from that, but he had a great performance today.”
Things won’t get any easier for NC State as the 14th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers come to town next week, but expect them to carry the momentum of their first two wins and improved defense into the game.
