Do Hornets’ Fans Appreciate Kemba Walker Enough?

I know in a country where the NFL is king and a state where college hoops reign, it’s hard to complete with the Cam’s, Luke’s, Roy’s and K’s of the world, but a name that largely goes unmentioned for his contributions to North Carolina Sports is Hornets’ point guard Kemba Walker.  From trade rumors to media attention or simple fan appreciation, Charlotte’s 2 time NBA All-Star is often an afterthought among the state’s other sports heavyweights.

But after passing Queen City legend (and Steph’s Daddy) Dell Curry to become the Hornets’ career scoring leader, it’s time to put some respeck on Kemba’s name.

Walker spoke emotionally after the game about the achievement and mentioned the doubt and criticism he’s received during his career at his post-game press conference.

“It means a lot.  Not a lot of people can say they’re a franchise’s leading scorer.  For me, it’s super special.  You know, all the doubt that I’ve gotten over my career.  All of the criticism and I steady keep proving people wrong.”

Kemba has given 110% to the Hornets.  Now it’s time for the franchise to give back to him in the form of a contending team, and the fans and media to do so in the form of respect.  Give that man his flowers while he’s here.  Don’t wait until he’s retired or balling out with another franchise to recognize greatness.
