There’s a rumor going around ACC Country that Blue Devils’ point guard Derryck Thornton is looking to transfer from Duke. Reportedly, his family isn’t happy with his playing time and are looking at better fits, including UNLV, where he played high school basketball.
Duke guy says Thornton could transfer. Worth watching. I have Duke #1 next year https://t.co/lwYOXTuNnM https://t.co/h4NHOQAhl5

I suspect Michael Gbinije’s success at Syracuse after transferring from Duke, doesn’t help the case in getting players who may not receive much playing time to stay, but Thornton’s case is different. As a freshman, Derryck averaged 26 minutes, 7.1 points and 2.6 assists per game for the Blue Devils – a far cry from being stuck at the end of the bench. Sometimes chasing playing time in hopes of a higher draft stock only hurts the player more. We’ll keep an eye on this one to see what happens.
