Charles Johnson Was First to Announce Release Via SnapChat (Photo)

I posted this 9 hours before news of Charles Johnson’s release hit the news wire.  Glad he was able to announce it first.

This is the time of year when news of NFL team veterans being cut is announced left and right.  So far, Carolina hasn’t been in the headlines, but this cryptic SnapChat post by defensive end Charles Johnson that was emailed to me by a fan, may mean that change is on the horizon.

Sounds like a goodbye to me, but you never know.  Last season was rough for Johnson – who spent half of the year sidelined with an injury, but there’s no doubt he still has some gas left in the tank.

The move saves the Panthers $11 million in cap space for 2016.

“Charles was an impact player for the Carolina Panthers for a long time, both on and off the field,” general manager Dave Gettleman said in a release. “His statistics speak for themselves, and as a team captain he led the way you want your leaders to lead — by example.”

Johnson ranks second in team history with 63.5 sacks.
