Wolfpack Lose Dayes For the Rest of the Season

NC State (5-3, 1-3 ACC) team suffered a devastating blow last week when junior running back Matt Dayes left the game in the second half with a foot injury. Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren announced Wednesday that Dayes will miss the remainder of the 2015 season, and will undergo surgery on Friday.

“I’m disappointed for Matt because he was having a really good year,” said Doeren. “But in football you’ve got to have a ‘next man up’ mentality, and I’m confident that his teammates will be ready to take on bigger roles and be successful.”

The loss of Dayes, who was averaging 108 yards rushing per game, could not have come a worse time for the Wolfpack. NC State travels to Boston College (3-6, 0-6 ACC) Saturday, the Eagles boast the nation’s best run defense allowing a miniscule 64.2 yards rushing per game. Desperately in need of  a victory Saturday, the Wolfpack will have to rely heavily on Jaylen Samuels and true freshman Reggie Gallaspy to carry the load the rest of the way.
