Mike Tolbert’s Mom Blasts ESPN Writer for Calling Her Son “Fat Boy”

Don’t mess with Mama Tolbert’s son.

Secelia Tolbert went on Facebook and blasted ESPN writer David Newton for calling her son a “Fat Boy” and “Tub of Goo.” Here’s her post from Wednesday night.

As the day went by, the angrier I got about the nicknames that David Newton called my son. Who calls someone ‘Fat Boy’ or ‘Tub of Goo’. Mike is a professional football player in the NFL and some jerk of a writer has the nerve to call him ‘Fat Boy’. These sounds like names a bully would call a kid on the play ground in grade school. Mike has many nicknames, but ‘Fat Boy’ and ‘Tub of Goo’ are not one of them. So ‪#‎PantherNation‬ here I go again, go on this website and let them know that Newton has totally pissed me off. I made a comment on the page and I also left a complaint on the Contact us page. To get to the contact page, I had to search “Contact David Newton” and I was able to leave a complaint. This was so disrespectful. I bet he won’t call Mike Fat Boy to his face.

Ms. Tolbert was referring to this article written by Newton about her son’s role in the Panthers’ offense in the absence of Kelvin Benjamin.

I’m not sure if Ms. Tolbert is right on this one.  I’m all for a mama defending her son and calling people out when they’re wrong, but Newton didn’t call Tolbert those names, he said those were nicknames he went by himself.

Do you think she was out of pocket?
