The largest round of cuts so far this preseason happened this morning as the Panthers released eight guys in order to reach the league-mandated 75 players by Tuesday’s 4pm deadline.
Among those waived were wide receiver Jarrett Boykin, who was acquired during the off-season after spending his first three years in Green Bay, and corner back Melvin White, who despite starting 17 games over the last two years, was no longer needed with veteran Charles Tillman now in Carolina. White announced his release this morning via Twitter.
Also waived were DT Kenny Horsley, S Robert Lester, WR/CB De’Andre Pressley, OT Davonte Wallace and DT Micanor Regis. WR Kelvin Benjamin was placed on the injured reserved list following his season-ending ACL tear.
In total, the Panthers have cut 15 players since Sunday, with 22 more to go before they reach their 53-man deadline by Saturday at 4pm.
