Best Coaches Quotes from ACC Kickoff Day Two

NC State heach coach Dave Doeren on closing the gap with Florida State and Clemson.

“They’re two great teams and you’ve got to find a way to win, and beat them if you want to be the top dog.”

NC State head coach Dave Doeren on where his team stands this year.

“We had great momentum in the off-season. We have a lot of returning players, we’re still young. We have 11 seniors on the team, but we have more guys that played in meaningful games and meaningful minutes.”

NC State heach coach Dave Doeren on his team’s confidence carrying over from last year.

“There’s a collective sense of confidence. At the end of the year they felt like they could beat anybody, and now it’s just filling in the voids, getting into camp and finding out how we’re going to make up for the losses we had on last year’s team.”

NC State heach coach Dave Doeren on how much time he spends on Twitter, how he uses it to his advantage, and what is the red light.

“I don’t know. My wife would tell you too much, for sure. There’s a lot of different things on that form of social media that you can find in recruiting. There’s also things you can find out about people, I think. We’re always trying to figure out who’s the best fit. We actually look at their pages (recruits), their pictures, what they write. There’s several kids we’ll stop recruiting when we see some of the things they put on those pages.”

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson on getting the fan base to be as large and as enthusiastic as the school is planning.

“You win football games. We got to win. We got to put a product on the field that there’s a demand  and people want to see. We will do that. I think fans will start seeing that start to come together this year. We’re going to be better. We’re stronger and have more depth.”

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney on quarterback Deshaun Watson being picked as pre-season Player of the Year.

“He’s as advertised. Y’all are picking him to be the pre-season Player of the Year and all that stuff is based on what y’all have seen. He’s beyond what you’ve seen. He’s a great football player, there’s no question about that. It’s pretty easy to watch this kid play and say, Wow, this a rare guy.”

North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora on chemistry issues surrounding the 2015 team.

“When we brought this team back, the first thing we did was talk about the issues we felt we had as a team. Every single guy on the team got to say what they thought the issues were and then we addressed every one of those issues. We owned them and then we got rid of them and said, ‘alright, it’s time to move forward … let’s learn from them.”

Duke head coach David Cutcliffe on his linebackers replacing injured senior Kelby Brown.

“Behind those two guys ( Zavier Carmichael and Dwayne Norman) we are going to stir and stir and stir, and cream is going to rise to the top. There is some talent. All of them can run.”

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher on the Seminoles off the field issues.

“I think it’s disappointing. But our president is over there when we’re doing well. We communicate quite often, once or twice a week. He’s in our locker room. He also knows we’re the window of this university. I think bringing him over, along with ourself, our AD, it’s another voice to these kids. It takes a village to raise kids. When you hear it, it’s like teachers. You’re the principal of an organization. You have so many different teachers that affect the kids differently.”

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney on his team being picked to win the ACC.

“I never really get too caught up in the pre-season prediction-type stuff. I appreciate people having respect for our program and our players. But, you know, really it truly is about the performance. Hopefully when it’s all said and done in December, whoever voted for us, we can make them look really smart, see if we can get it done. I do think we’re definitely one of those teams.”
