PJ Hairston on Citation for 4 Traffic Violations: “People Need Something to Talk About”

For the third consecutive summer, PJ Hairston finds his name in headlines for some type of run-in with the law.  This time the Hornets’ shooting guard was cited on June 18th for speeding, driving with a revoked license, expired tags and driving left of the center line.  It was reported that Hairston was traveling 51 mph in a 35 mph zone in a 2015 Cadillac Escalade.

After Charlotte’s summer league game on Wednesday, Hairston said the citation was a misunderstanding and blamed the media for needing something to talk about.

“I was pulled over and my license was suspended. I got (another) ticket on my birthday, I paid the ticket and Davie County failed to reinstate my license,” Hairston said following the Hornets’ summer-league loss to the Orlando Magic. “My financial adviser drove to Davie County with the receipt I had. I had to wait for them to reinstate my license. I have a valid license now and my truck has been inspected and I paid the taxes on my truck.

“So everything is fine. Just a big mix-up in the media and a false message on Twitter going around about me. It is what it is; people need something to talk about.”

Can’t say that I’m surprised Hairston is blaming someone other than himself for his own carelessness.  It seems like the 22-year-old has learned little to nothing from his previous legal trouble.  On top of that, his play on the court hasn’t been what the Hornets expected it would be when they traded for him in last year’s draft.  He better get his act together on and off the court or his NBA career will be very short-lived.
