Broke Rapper Records Entire Mixtape at Apple Store

What do you do when you’re broke and your laptop is on the fritz, but your flow is so hot you have to record a mix-tape for the people?  You go to the Apple Store of course.

That’s exactly what Brooklyn rapper Prince Harvey did for four months as he recorded a full album right in the Soho Apple location.

[NY Post]

“It wasn’t my plan to record this at the Apple Store. First, my computer died. Then my external [hard drive] died,” Harvey told the Daily Beast. “New York is expensive. I couldn’t just buy another laptop. I just thought, ‘I’m going to die before anyone knows I’m hot.’ ”

Harvey said he dodged the store’s end-of-day policy of wiping its display computers’ memory by hiding files in the devices’ trash.

He said he also relied on e-mail and a thumb drive to store his work.

It usually did the trick.

But “one time, there was a fire drill, and I was trying to save my work, and this lady came over and disconnected the thumb drive while it was saving,” he lamented.

Harvey said that while he’s grateful to the pair of Apple workers who looked the other way while he belted out his tunes, he wants to keep them anonymous.

If this isn’t an awesome story about determination and perseverance, I don’t know what it is.  Now, does Prince Harvey spit that hot fire?  You’ll have to be the judge of that.  His mix-tape  PHATASS, which stands for Prince Harvey at the Apple Store Soho, drops July 26th.
