Cam Newton Signs $103.8 Million Extension with Panthers

***Cues Cashing Out***

The Panthers have decided that Cam Newton is their man and they have made it official by signing the quarterback to a $103.8 million deal keeping him in Carolina through the 2020 season.

Some may criticize the contract, but the Panthers really had no other choice.  After taking him with the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft, Newton was offensive rookie of the year, has been to two Pro Bowls, is coming off of leading the team to a victory in last year’s playoffs and has shown signs that he’s only getting better.

This contract also has major repercussions for Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson, whose agents will be undoubtedly use it to set the bar as their clients begin long-term negotiations themselves.

Now that the thing that was looming over the the franchise has been taken care of, it’s time to focus on improving on last year’s playoff result.

The team has a press conference scheduled for 6pm to officially announce the extension.
