Many of your favorite Duke basketball players are in Durham for K Academy – a fantasy camp where rich guys 35 and up pay thousands of dollars to rub elbows with Coach K and his current and former players and play pick-up games.
Former Duke guard Nolan Smith is in attendance and had an unfortunate run-in with police last night while in the area.
So you mean to tell me that a degree and successful playing career at one of the best basketball programs in the country didn’t prevent this black man from having guns drawn on him for simply having dark tint? From what Smith is saying, it seems like he took all the proper precautions by rolling his windows down to identify himself and prove himself harmless, but the police officers just saw a black man and immediately deemed him a threat. The thing that gets me is that once they found out who he was they had the nerve to ask for an autograph. Sad, but not surprising. This is type of story is one that is familiar among black men. This is why the relationship law enforcement and the black community is destroyed and unless encounters like this become fewer things will only get worse. I’m commend Nolan for shared his experience.
