“Santa Cam” Gives Out $31K in Gifts, Plays Basketball with Local Students (Video)

Many would use suffering two lower back fractures in a terrible car accident as an excuse to chill.  Not Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton, who on Tuesday through his foundation’s “Santa Cam Surprise Sleigh” event, gifted more than $31,000 in gifts to local students, teachers, and homeless women and children.

While visiting the schools Newton, who admits he hasn’t driven since last week’s crash, along with teammates Kelvin Benjamin and Joe Webb, surprised students at West Meck, shot hoops with Cochrane Academy’s basketball team, and took pictures with women and children at the Salvation Army’s Center of Hope – leaving gifts and a trail of smiles at each stop.

When asked whether he’ll play Sunday against the Browns, Newton was non-committal.

“Uhm, I mean, whatever happens, happens. I feel good. I feel great. I’m going to go throughout this week and see what happens.”

Through his foundation, Newton has been a familiar face at local schools – giving back to students and being active in the community.  Salute.
