UNC Causes $10,000 in Damage to Duke Locker Room after Win

The UNC football team defeated Duke for the first time since 2011 last Thursday.  After the decisive 45-20 win, the Tar Heels celebrated by spray painting the victory bell Carolina blue, but decided to take the celebration into the locker room where they reportedly spray painted UNC on the floor and walls causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to Duke’s visitor’s locker room.

UNC Head Coach Larry Fedora and athletic director Bubba Cunningham issued a statement apologizing for the damage.

“We would like to apologize to the Duke Football program and Duke University for some inappropriate actions after last Thursday night’s game in Durham. Our team took the celebration too far when they were painting the bell, resulting in damage to some of the facilities at Duke. We take full responsibility for our actions and will be paying for all costs associated with the cleanup.

“We view this as a rivalry built on mutual respect and we expect our players to behave better in a way that is more befitting of the rivalry.”

Rivalries are one of the greatest things about college sports and UNC/Duke is one of the best.  It’s unfortunate that after playing such a great game the Tar Heels acted in such a classless way.  There had to be coaches in the locker room during the vandalism, I question what they did to stop it.
