Undrafted Canadian Rookie to Protect Cam Newton’s Blind Side Tonight

Cam Newton Sack

The Byron Bell haters (and I must include myself in that mix) will get what they want tonight…a replacement.  But I’m not sure this is scenario they had in mind.

When the Carolina Panthers take on the New Orleans Saints tonight in a battle for the NFC South lead, French-Canadian undrafted rookie David Foucault will be protecting the blind side of one of the team’s most valuable players.

“What do you want us to do?,” Rivera asked rhetorically. “We came out of camp with three guys (Bell, Chandler and Williams), and Amini was the emergency. Now you have four guys who have the potential to play left tackle for you that aren’t going to be available. One has a bad groin and he’s going to play right tackle. This is the situation we’re in.”

“The three games that he’s had an opportunity to play in, you get excited, you get intrigued,” Rivera said of Foucault, who played 30 snaps last Sunday against Seattle, 29 the previous week against Green Bay and 11 in Week 4 at Baltimore. “It’ll be fun to see how he does.”

Good to know Rivera thinks it will be fun to see how he does.  I wonder how Newton feels.
