Panthers Cut Charles Godfrey

The Panthers made a shocking move today when they cut veteran defensive back Charles Godfrey, who has spent his entire career with Carolina.

“Making this move was difficult because Charles has been a large part of what we have done since I came to Carolina four years ago,” coach Ron Rivera said in a statement. “He has always tried to do everything we have asked of him and worked extremely hard. He is an outstanding young man and we wish him the very best.”

Godfrey is the first casualty of a Panthers defense that has struggled mightily this season and although he has been a decent player for Carolina, he doesn’t seemed to have the same speed since tearing his Achilles last season.

The secondary has always been the team’s weakest link and they have been even more exposed this season with the weakened play of the defensive line that are showing signs of missing Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy.  Well, see how this shake up affects the Panthers’ D.
