When NC State travels to Louisville in hopes of avoiding their 4th straight loss, the Wolfpack will be without several key players after 7 members of the team were suspended for an off-campus incident involving a BB gun game.
“These are good young men who made a mistake in not recognizing that this activity could have resulted in someone being injured,” coach Dave Doeren said in a statement. “We have discussed this with them and they understand that they are being held responsible for their actions. The information was referred to the university’s office of student conduct as well. Our players admitted their mistake and we will help them learn from it.”
Starting linebacker and the team’s leading tackler Jerod Fernandez and starting safety Josh Jones will not play Saturday. Receivers Johnathan Alston and Jumichael Ramos, defensive tackle Justin Jones, defensive end Pharoah McKeyer and cornerback Mike Stevens have also been suspended.
This is the second time this year we have seen college football players missing time for playing with BB guns. It sounds like 18 and 19 year olds acting like 18 and 19 year olds to me, but if people were in harm’s way, maybe a one-game suspension will serve as a wakeup call.
