Cincinnati and Charlotte Twitter Accounts Battle Over Which is the Real Queen City

Charlotte and Cincinnati deem themselves The Queen City, so in the wake of the Panthers and Bengals game on Sunday, what better way to settle the argument than with a good ole twitter battle.

Both cities’ twitter accounts took turns taking jabs at each other and some of them were pretty funny.

Charlotte got its nickname from Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who became Queen of Great Britain the year before the city was established.

Cincinnati got its nickname from a Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem where he described the city saying: “And this Song of the Vine, This greeting of mine, The winds and the birds shall deliver, To the Queen of the West, In her garlands dressed, On the banks of the Beautiful River.”

I always pay homage to the original, and since Charlotte got its nickname in the 1700’s after being named after an actual queen and Cincy got its based on a poem written in the 1800’s, it looks like Charlotte is the original and real Queen City.  Oh, and the City of Charlotte’s twitter page won its battle as well.  We’ll figure out which team wins the battle on the field Sunday.
